The Gatsby Gala had to raise their ticket prices. in 2007 at the $50 price they exceeded the fire capacity. The space is donated by Childress/Wachovia and they can't find another space to do it. They raised the price actually to keep people out but bring in the same amount of money. Also, the people who can afford the more expensive tickets are the ones who can afford to bid during the auctions.

I went to this last year and it was pretty lame. The wine was horrible and the beer selection was your basic malted piss. Hardly anyone danced probably because the band sucked. If you want to feel good about yourself, make a donation to the Red Cross and hit a bar with your friends. Don't waste a night on this!

Finally, an event that isn't gouging people on ticket prices (are you listening, Great Gatsby Gala and Black & White Night?). This event has been $25 since at least 2005.
Now if they'd only bring back the "Red Hot Turkey Trot" name - "Red Hot Turkey Bash" just doesn't have the proper ring.
Updated 11/24: to Native - Liquid Pleasure is a great band and they put on a very good show. I agree that the drink selection was pretty weak.
to Groove - GGG made $20,000 LESS this year (charging $75) than they did in 2007 (charging $40 advance/$50 at-the-door). In 2008 & 2009 attendance was nowhere near capacity.
