Judy facilitates seminars, workshops and trainings around the world and has agreed to introduce the work to Charlotte on December 11th, 2008 in the form of a one-day seminar.
She will discuss the origins of this systemic approach; some of its applications; hidden family patterns and their effects on us. What we really pass on to our children. How everybody belongs in the family and why. She may also touch briefly on systemic applications in business.
Biography:
Judy is a widely published author with numerous awards. She studied Family Systems Work under the direction of Mark Wolynn and Suzi Tucker of the Bert Hellinger Institute of Western Pennsylvania. Her background is healthcare and counseling, in South Africa. Originally she offered workshops throughout Texas but demands from out of state now have her flying coast to coast.
Echoes of family traumas live in our bodies, our fears- even in the words we speak. The idea of an inherited family nervous system appears to be an observable phenomenon. A woman for example may carry a trauma of sexual abuse - but it may not be her trauma. We sometimes encounter clients who carry symptoms of a trauma, yet know of no such event in their lives or family systems.
By exploring the client’s words, symptoms and physical postures, the facilitator elicits the hidden or limiting patterns in the family system. These can surface within minutes. Once we identify these patterns we can break free and begin to live in full strength and dignity.
Bert Hellinger, the founder of this work, has studied and treated families for more than 50 years. His approach is practiced in more than 25 countries around the world. He has observed that many of us unconsciously take on destructive familial patterns of anxiety, guilt, anger, depression, loneliness, alcoholism and even illness as a way of ‘belonging’ in our families. Bonded by a deep and unconscious love, a child will often sacrifice his own best interests in a vain attempt to ease the suffering of a parent or other family member. The Systemic approach is a 30-60 minute group process that allows people to untangle themselves from unconscious loyalties and offers a profound, lasting and concrete solution.
This experiential workshop:
1. Introduces you to Hellinger’s phenomenological approach to family systems group therapy; its principles, and theoretical understandings;
2. Identifies the theoretical differences between Hellinger’s work and other models of group and family systems therapy;
3. Allows you to personally experience family constellation work either as clients, representatives or observers;
4. Shows ways that Hellinger’s family systems therapy can be implemented in clinical practices with groups, couples, or individuals.
How it works:
Members of the group are chosen to represent actual family members and are positioned within the room. Hidden loyalties are then brought to the surface. As new, healthy images of the family system emerge, love and strength can begin to flow in a liberating. The effects of this can be profound and life-altering.
Professionals:
Licensed Professional Counselors, doctors, psychologists, ministers, psychiatrists, teachers have reported good results using this approach. Many find this approach offers a complementary facet to their overall treatment.
Counselors, doctors, yoga instructors, reiki masters, massage therapists, and energy workers frequently refer clients to these workshops, having attended and experienced the benefits for themselves.
Originally from South Africa, now based in Texas, Judy Smith is a speaker, workshop facilitator and level 1 trainer. Additionally, she is an award winning poet and author of two published psychological thrillers. Her workshops are well attended by everyday people, a diversity of professionals in the counseling, allied healthcare services and naturopathic fields. LPC’s, Social Workers, ministers and educators have found this a helpful approach to integrate into their own practices. An increasing number of CEO’s, executives and businesses request systemic consultation as a dynamic way of dealing with cultural and expansion issues. This is also viewed as a complementary approach to many current therapies and other well-established modules.
Public:
When feelings are carried, that seem to make no sense, or irrational fears shut down fulfillment or joy this approach may provide the insight to possible solutions.
When we know we have choices we can move forward. The blind man does not even know where to begin to look. By illuminating what was unseen the path becomes clear!
