Intro to Documentary Filmmaking

Course Description:
Demystify the filmmaking process and have some fun! This class will teach the basics of documentary filmmaking with ample opportunity to produce your own short film. We'll watch short subject documentaries to discover what makes a compelling story...then we'll create some of our own. Each student will have the chance to concept, shoot, and edit her/his documentary, assisted by the other students.

The class will cover the basics of camera operation, sound and lighting, story… Show more and character development, plus how to conduct interviews and shoot b-roll. In addition, students will learn the basics of editing. Students will have an opportunity to show their work at a private screening for family and friends. Class size is limited to 8 students.
