Nnenna Freelon & John Brown Big Band: We Wish You A Swinging Christmas

What is Christmas? The time for family and
friends to gather, heartfelt, lasting, timeless
moments - the time for love. Freelon sings
what she gives, all of that and more. In her
first collection of holiday classics, Freelon
once again turns the expected into something
quite different and wonderful. For instance,
she mines the Ellington songbook for “I Like
The Sunrise,” a tune not typically associated
but that readily applies to the feelings of
children on that morn. The late Frank Foster

Nnenna collaborates on this project with
long-time friend and musical colleague,
bassist-extraordinaire John Brown and his
Big Band. They put the swing in the season,
and Brown, both Duke University educator
and performer, surrounds Freelon with the
yuletide spirit!
