Were we at the same event?

As one of the organizers for both the Charlotte St. Patrick's Day Parade & Charlotte Goes Green Festival, I must take strong exception to some of your comments. While this year's parade was the largest, we feel it was well executed based on the feedback we have received from private citizens & city officials. We expanded the parade route this year in order to ease the growing crowds we continue to have and the new route extension worked well. While we have many Irish related groups participating in the parade, we also open the parade to the community. Our motto for the parade is "Charlotte's Most Fun Parade". The strength of the parade is the diversity where everyone is Irish for a day! Regarding your parade experience, I'm sorry if some people got in front of you, but we hire a large contingent of Char/Meck police officers to maintain excellent crowd control. We are very proud of our safety record. Can we do better? Sure, you always can get better, but we'll match our parade to any other one. Regarding the festival, yes there are a lot of people there after the parade, but that's what makes it successful. It's meant to be a family friendly party. We are looking into ways to expand our footprint to relieve some congestion, but this event has become a must stop event for many well known Irish vendors from around the country and the feedback we get is very positive. Our events have been nationally & regionally recognized. We hope you will return next year & enjoy the day with us!

Parade Leaves a LOT to be Desired

Very Poorly run Parade and Festival. We got to the Parade about an hour early only to have Rude and Homeless people show up at the last minute to get in front of the kids and get in the street to scoop up and beg for all the candy and trinkets that the participants were passing out to on lookers. There was no police or organizers keeping people out of the streets and on the curb. This is the responsibility of the organizer.

We spoke to one of the Parade judges and he bragged how the parade gets Bigger and more floats every year. Someone needs to let the organizing committee know that Bigger is not necessarily better. Most of the participants had nothing to do with St. Patrick's day.

The "Turn Charlotte Green Festival" was also dis-organized. They try to pack everything in such a tight area that you can't even walk down the street to get to the stage to see the performers. It's time to move the Festival to a large park or one of the area venues like Rural Hill Plantation,so there is space.

If the committees don't decide to do such a move then I'm sure some of the other Towns in the area will start their own activities and capitalize on the opportunity to bring the "Irish of the Charlotte area" to their community to celebrate their Irish roots.
