How about this...

Get drunk on your own time and at home for less money. But come for the music. I enjoy the small venue. I can drink at home, but Heart wouldn't come to my house... so this worked out okay.

Fillmore Charlotte

Ok I'll cut to the chase; corporate run music venues like the Fillmore should cease to exist! What a shame! This place was billed as the next big thing in CLT, well it is for Live Nation! My first, and only experience!, with the Charlotte Fillmore was for the Gov't Mule show Friday July 24th. 1st; the entrance lines were unorganized. 2nd; after getting my tickets at will call, had to stand in line again just to enter. 3rd; there is 1 set of bathrooms which are adjacent to the stage so you have to FIGHT THROUGH THE CROWD each time 4th; there are 4 bars and each had 1 or 2 incompetent tenders. The beers were warm and $9 for 12oz Bud-BudLIght-Miller etc.. GIVE ME A BREAK!! What a rip off! Not too mention in took me 40 minutes to stand in line for 2 beers. 5th; if you are not lucky enought to get a good spot and get stuck in the back on the 3rd or 4th tier the sound is not good due to the ceiling. Overall Mule was great as they always are. Too bad I can't say the same for the Fillmore. What a shame, but I expect nothing less from Live Nation. Live Nation and TicketMaster can go....well, you know. They are killing the live music experience. I will NEVER set foot in Fillmore again. Consider yourself warned.

Fillmore Charlotte - 1st Impression

OK...so I'm a huge Gov't Mule fan and the last time the band was in Charlotte they played the Neighborhood Theatre. What an awesome place to see a show. Since the Fillmore Charlotte was billed as an all ages non-smoking venue, I thought this would be a good opportunity to have a fun night out with my wife and 14 & 16 year old sons. So how did it go? The band was awesome and played a fantastic set..that was a given... How about the venue...not so much:

1. Entrance - The entrance line was never clear...and it melded into the line for will-call tickets and new ticket purchases. No real organization.
2. Tickets - Only two people checking licenses...before you could again get in line and get your ticket scanned for entrance. What an unnecessary bottleneck!
3. Bathrooms - While there was a nice spacious bathroom, it was all the way in the front corner of the venue, opposite the front door and across the stage. Be prepared to wade through a huge crush of folks if you have to go. Big lines and hard to navigate inside the venue. At least one additonial set of restrooms is needed, one for each side of the venue.
4. Bars - There are 4 bars, 2 on each side. The lines were long, and when I had my turn, you can get a 12 oz. Sam Adams, 12 oz. Carolina Blonde, 24 oz. Bud Light or 24 oz. Miller Light, for the economical price of $9. I'm not sure what the mixed drinks cost. Oh, and the bottled water, or tap water (or anything wet for that matter my younger son wanted....forget about it...I did wander around for about 30 minutes and was able to raise a stink and finally get something, but come on!!!
5. The venue itself- Basically a very nice warehouse with 4 levels, and all of it standing room only. 2000 + people moving around, talking, see and be seen. At times the sound system had a tough time competing with the background noise and almost had a muddy quality.

In summary, for my musical experience dollar, the Fillmore Charlotte was less than satisfactory as compared to the Visulite, and especially the Neighborhood Theatre. Gov't Mule ....Good. Fillmore Charlotte...Not so good.
