The new Q could have kept more humor despite losing the gadgets. Bond lets morality play, perhaps, but loses another Bond Girl who could have added more. The creepy villain almost made me laugh, despite his serious motivation - he just didn't trump all the world destroyers of the past. And why leave fake breadcrumbs to a real location (I know - DB5) Visual variety was good but I'm glad I didn't pay for Imax.
Don't expect your typical bond film. I found this one to be more of a psychological thriller; a little less action. Some parts were slower than usual. Not necessarily bad; just different. I probably won't be picking this one up in Blu-ray.
If you're familiar with Fleming's Bond and the later books, it firmly established that Bond is of Swiss and Scottish descent, and Fleming chose Scottish after being impressed with Connery's portrayal in Dr. No.
Its really bad when a movie cirtic does not understand one of the most iconic opening sequences in a series of movies-At the start of a James Bond movie you see Bond down the barrell of a gun- not a freaking camera lens-- Larry-- pick up a book on the Bond films- you maybe able to write a more informed review.
