The CineOdyssey Film Festival seeks to introduce audiences to diverse, contemporary films from around the world. We give a platform to the next wave of filmmakers of color, celebrating their artistic achievements, as well as cultivating an appreciation of the art form, inspiring audiences to bridge cultural understanding. Though our annual film festival and quarterly film series, we showcase the works of filmmakers from the U.S. and African, Caribbean, Latino, Asian, and Native American diasporas.
Come join us as we present the screening of director Justin Chon’s sophomore feature film “Gook”, winner of the Audience Award at Sundance 2017. The films gives a nod and pays homage to Spike Lee’s classic film “Do The Right Thing," both in execution and style, as it examines race relations in America, circa 1992.
Synopsis: On the eve of the ’92 LA riots, two Korean American brothers befriend a streetwise 11 year old African American girl, while forced to defend their struggling shoe store from the impending chaos.
