The production theme is based on a quote by Marcus Mosiah Garvey, "a people without knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots." “A Garden of Quilts” Quilt Show
The Western North Carolina Quilters’ Guild, which has proudly promoted the art of quilting since 1982, will present a juried quilt show entitled “A Garden of Quilts” for two days, May 5-6, 2017. Show hours are: 10 a.m.to 5 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. The location is the Bonclarken Conference Center in Flat Rock, NC, nestled in the spectacular Blue Ridge Mountains. The show will feature over 100 quilts judged by Scott Murkin. There will also be several fabric and arts-and-crafts vendors, a Guild boutique shop, and a variety of food items for sale at Bonclarken’s pavilion. Group tours may be available. Drawing for the Guild’s raffle quilt, Blooming Stars, will be held on Saturday May 6 and the winning ticket holder does not have to be present to win. “Celtic Brass Concert"
The Queen City Brass Band is pleased to announce its winter concert "Celtic Brass', coming up on Sunday March 19 at 4:00 pm, at St. Stephen United Methodist Church, 6800 Sardis Rd., Charlotte. In honor of St. Patrick’s day, the band will present an evening of traditional and contemporary music of Ireland and Scotland. Featured works include music from ‘Riverdance’ and the film ‘Braveheart’. This will be an exciting potpourri of music for every taste and a unique experience not to be missed. The Queen City Brass Band is Charlotte's own British Brass Band, in continuous existence since 1992. It specializes in performing the best of the Brass Band literature as well as a broad range of music of all styles and eras. 1 Million Cups is a community-based organization that gives local entrepreneurs a safe place to practice their pitch. This new educational program is supported by the $2 billion Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation which makes their meetings FREE and open to ALL. The Charlotte chapter meets on the first Wednesday of every month from 8:30a-10a at Industry Coworking and we need supportive audience members like you to ask the founders questions and give them feedback on their business ideas. Each session begins with a half hour of FREE coffee (provided by Enderly Coffee) and casual socializing. The program begins about 9am with one or two startups presenting their story for six minutes, followed a Q&A from the audience for about 20 minutes. Presented by Bottle Cap Group, the event will feature entertainment by Hot Sauce, Creole cuisine, a silent auction, photo booth, fortune teller and more. Guests will also be treated to a Mardi Gras Masquerade Contest, luxury raffle, and the crowning of the Gala King & Queen. 12th Annual Black Mountain Garden Show and Sale
12th Annual Black Mountain Garden Show and Sale is set for Saturday, May 20, from 9 am to 4 pm at The Monte Vista Hotel, 308 W. State Street, Black Mountain, NC. This event is the season's most scenically situated garden show. The Garden Sale selection of plants cover perennials, annuals, herbs, vegetables, native trees, shrubs, maples, iris, daylilies, hostas and garden accessories. Garden related workshops will be conducted throughout the day. Come early to purchase items from the Clothesline Fundraising Event which supports the Black Mountain Beautification Committee.
