Mary Fahl, formerly of October Project, at Stage Door

Acoustic, Folk, Pop
Sounding like no other singer of her generation,” Mary Fahl is an expressive, emotional singer/songwriter who first achieved fame as lead singer and co-founder of the mid-1990s cult band OCTOBER PROJECT, a folk-pop group that recorded two albums for Epic, selling over 300,000 copies. With what the Boston Globe dubbed “a voice for the gods,” Fahl wraps you up in her rich contralto, and transports you to every corner of a song with power and grace.

The Jazz Room: Sasha Masakowski sings Antonio Carlos Jobim

Jazz
After much-acclaim and sold-out performances, Charlotte’s Jazz Arts Initiative’s monthly series—The Jazz Room @ The Stage Door Theater – kicks off Season 9 on April 14 and 15 with the Sasha Masakowski singing sounds of Brazil with a tribute to the king of bossa nova, Antônio Carlos Jobim. Brazilian songwriter, composer, arranger, singer, and pianist/guitarist, Jobim is considered to be one of the most important songwriters of the 20th century, sometimes referred to as the George Gershwin of Brazil. Shows take place on the third Friday (6:00pm & 8:15pm) and Saturday (7:00pm & 9:15pm) of each month at the Stage Door Theater. The evenings feature two sets as the Charlotte region’s most gifted musicians recreate the music of jazz masters like Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck and Billie Holiday. The Jazz Room provides a casual and intimate setting with tables and a full bar, reminiscent of the classic jazz rooms of yesteryear. For information on Jazz Room subscriptions, visit www.thejazzarts.org or call 704-334-3900.
